365 Project, Day 97-100

It's providence I tell ya, providence!

I did the math, and if I had kept going, today would have been sketch 100. So I decided to go all out and bring us up to date and provide you with a sweet little dragon piece.

Yes. That's a dragon. He's about the size of a house cat and smart as hell. They can communicate telepathically with their human companion. The little pouch under the neck will inflate with a solution provided by separate glands in the dragon's neck. These are mixed together and once released into the air, become flammable. The dragon is coated in an oil which, much like a duck does with water, allows flame to roll off him.

354 Project, Day 96

Quadropuss
Yeah. He's only got 4 tentacles instead of his bigger cousin's 8. But don't hold it against him. He's still kind of cute.

Tried my luck with my primary hand.  Left the brace on and this is what I got. Since I couldn't use my wrist, it was either broad sweeping strokes or very minute ones. Neither ideal for sketching on a tablet.  Hopefully, I'll be able to try it without the stupid brace here in a day or two.  It's rather annoying and I need to get back to my comic book, Seedlings.

365 Project, Day 94

Reginald the Robot.
Not my fav of the bunch... but I give you Reginald the Robot. He's running to get in shape, but unfortunately he's a robot made of metal.

365 Project, Day 93

The Horribly Drawn Snow Monster. But he prefers to go by Frank.
Frank - because calling him the Horribly Drawn Snow Monster really pisses him off and we don't want to do that - really despises people, especially artists, particularly this artist, because he drew him very badly and gave him yellow snow... and because he writes horribly long, run on sentences that never seem to end but eventually have to.

365 Project, Day 92

So, here's my very first digital sketch with my opposite hand.... I actually kind of like it. Especially since it felt like I had absolutely no firm grip on the stylus.

I know I've missed a few days, but once I get my left hand back in order, I plan on working up something special for the lapse.

365 Project, Day 91

Here walks Daedelach.
He's very happy that we've been fattening up his cows under the false pretenses of doing it for their steaks and burgers.  He's even happier that we've been fattening up his humans.

365 Project, Day 90

Blinky Blue.
While the other faeries were busy trying to tidy up their hair, shine their wings and straighten their antenna, Blinky was busy granting faerie wishes and prettying up the world.

365 Project, Day 89

The Happy Hunters
One of the many genetic and biotech experiments that were run in the undercity of Oasis. They over ran their controls and created their own pseudo society the terrorizes the inhabitants of the undercity. Some think that the Happy Hunters actually never escaped and are still being monitored for further research by the company that created them.

365 Project, Day 88

Hunter-Seeker 385. Also known as the HS Mini
Used mostly for surveillance and precision tactics, The HS Mini is able to get into tight places and go mostly unnoticed.  It has a shorter range than its larger cousins, but they can be loaded on to mobile docking units. and brought closer to their operation zones. The extendable arms can be fitted with multiple tools, depending on the mission.

365 Project, Day 87

Long Armed Monk
No, that's not a type-o. This is not a monkey.  It's more closely related to an raccoon. The term Monk was given to this species due to their silence. They have never been observed to make a noise. The Long Armed Monk developed its long arms so that it could hang from the tree and still be able to pluck fallen fruit from the ground. This allows them access to a resource not normally contested over by other tree dwellers.

365 Project, Day 86

My attempt at "Cute"
I give you the Greater Plains Rabbit. Their long ears are used more for distracting predators than they are for hearing.  These rabbits are about the size of a small house cat and are capable of a 10 ft vertical leap.  Their diet consists primarily of grass roots.

Monday, December 16, 2013

365 Project, Day 85

Tree Frog.
I'm pretty sure I'm not happy with this one. Oh well, they can't all be gems.  Learn and move on.

Sunday, December 15, 2013

365 Project, Day 84

The Krasnitcz
This large predator runs around the size of a horse and feeds mostly on fish. They have been known to try out an occasional human now and then.  They aren't the top predator in the ocean's of Oasis - for there are much, much bigger fish down there - but they may be the most efficient.  They're solitary creatures and only come together for mating.

365 Project, Day 83

The Zellits
They determined a long time that they were right in their opinion. Their belief, knowledge, philosophy... we're not sure as it was a log time ago, but they determined that they were right and any questioning of that Rightness was antagonistic toward their culture. So, they decided to lobotomize those that questioned the Rightness. It wasn't a full lobotomy, just the free thinking portions. Eventually, they were all lobotomized, down through generations, and every child went through the ritual of having the free thinking portion of their brain removed and The Rightness shoved into it.

365 Project, Day 81

This here's Bob.  He's some sort of squid thing and it really depresses him. He wanted to be a peacock, full of color. Now he is destined to be eaten by a Sperm Whale.

365 Project, Day 80

Not sure if this more for me or everyone else out there.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

365 Project,Day 79

Wolfcat
Please don't tell a wolfcat what its name is, they're mean enough little bastards as it is.  I mean, really, a name derivative of a canine? Who comes up with these!?

Monday, December 9, 2013

365 Project, Day 78

The Bat Eating Worm
These big guys hang from the roof of caves and use their large feelers to catch prey.  They have feelers equipped with luminescence and sticky mucus that help snare their prey.  Once caught, the large pincers draw the bat or other creature into its mouth.  They can grow large enough that the hanging portion can be as long as a man's forearm.  You don't want to know how long they are when you figure out their total length, including their rock anchoring tail.

Sunday, December 8, 2013

365 Project, Day 77

Armored Grell.
The large bony front of the animal is used for combat during mating season and also for defense. Females are also equipped with a slightly denser plate. The adults form a circle around the young, with the plates facing out, when threatened.  The tusks are used mainly for digging up tender roots.

Saturday, December 7, 2013

365 Project, Day 76

The Piston Bird.
The bird earns its name by the piston, or hammer action of its head it uses to stun and sometimes kill its prey. Possibly the fastest land animal in Oasis, the piston bird has been known to hunt man.

Friday, December 6, 2013

365 Project, Day 75

Sky Squid.
They live in the great grass lands that surround the Father Trees and graze on the grass.  They're able to float based on the generation of gasses in a large bladder that takes up most of their body.  One interesting fact is how they survive the severe wind storms that flow through the grass lands.  They're able to release some of their gasses, allowing them to sink into the fields and then they can grasp the roots with their tentacles, anchoring themselves down.

Thursday, December 5, 2013

365 Project, Day 74

The Camel Beetle.
Considered a delicacy among some of the tribes of "The Tree Guardians." They carry a large amount of moisture in their carapace, which ends up having a slight sour taste.  They're eaten alive since cooking them allows the liquid to leak out or boil away.

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

365 Project, Day 73

Dragon Lizard.
These little guys live mostly on the cliffs bordering the Badlands and Sulfuric Desert of Oasis. They feed on a diet of insects. The large spines and flaps of skin allow the lizard to leap off the cliff in order to catch some of the flying insects and also to escape predators. The large webbed feet and tail fin allow the lizard extreme agility in the air, even though they are only gliders.

365 Porject, Day 72

Ah, but here's the rub, man. You have to actually THINK about what goes in there once you open it up and be willing to throw any shit away that doesn't ring true.

Monday, December 2, 2013

365 Project, Day 71

Johnson's Flitlicker.  The name is a bit of a misnomer, for the bird neither flits nor licks. It merely hops up and down branches and uses its over-sized beak to crush the hard carapaces of the bark beetles it favors.

Sunday, December 1, 2013

365 Project, Day 70

The Alynx.  It looks very similar to a giraffe but is actually much closer to felines of Earth. It has developed it's extraordinary long neck to hunt the birds higher in the trees and the other flying creatures on Oasis. It also has an extremely fast tongue that can flash out much like a chameleon. A truly remarkable creature.

Saturday, November 30, 2013

365 Project, Day 69

And here we have an Oooh Baba. They're extremely fast, but become fascinated with the smallest things, so then fall easily fall prey to the nearest predator.  They're an endangered species.... obviously.

365 Project, Day 68

Happy Black Friday.  Isn't materialism grand.

365 Project, Day 67

365 Project, Day 65

Gabriel Edward Franklin Sullivan the 3rd. Known to his friends as "Hey, can you open this?"

Monday, November 25, 2013

365 Project, Day 64

The Floating Nedervest.  About the size of a blue whale, some think he has given rise to the tales of giant squids attacking ships. They couldn't be farther from the truth. The Floating Nedervest has actually held up ships after they've capsized and saved the crews.

... well, he may eat one or two of them if he's hungry.

365 Project, Day 63

Mr. Smith will see you now, sir.
A dealer in dreams. If dealing means stealing and eating. Generally a citizen of the shadows, Mr.Smith can also be seen in that dull gleam of the depressed eye.

365 Project, Day 62

One of the Fae.  She's naked, why?  Because they don't give a crap about clothes.  Would you, with all that power and near immortality?  Would you really concern yourself with such mortal desires.

Anyways, the one pictured here has a name I can't pronounce and took pleasure in luring mortals into swamps to suffer from the boglumps.  She also enjoyed saving them.  Depends on the moon.

Friday, November 22, 2013

365 Project, Day 61

I give you Boglump.  A skittish little creature, yellow-brown in hue. Generally the size of a large door mouse.  Very good at disguising themselves as swamp bubbles or lumps of viscous algae.

365 Project, Day 59 and 60

I was a bit late on yesterday's post and then sleep got to me before I could post it, so I give you Wednesday's and today's post together.

I'm also going to start up a different format starting tomorrow.  Instead of trying to do a consecutive story, I'm going to challenge myself with a new character design or creature design every day.

This last format really wasn't cutting it in the "warm-up" category and actually seemed to hindere my primary project, Seedlings, from moving forward the way I wanted it to.  I'm hoping that the character and creature designs, which I plan on only taking 10 or 15 minutes on each, will jump start the thinking process as well as loosen the wrist and fingers.

What new worlds we might discover!

365 Project, Day 48

A little more contrast, some filler in the vines, a big ol' mountain and voila, Day 48.
